Cancellation notices received 7 days before the workshop date are eligible for a refund.

Cancellations received within 7 days of the workshop date, are NOT guaranteed a refund. In some cases, depending on the workshop, you may be able to transfer your workshop ticket to a friend who can attend in your place. Please know, however, we cannot make this accommodation in all instances, and it is subject to approval. In any case, get in touch with us right away if you can't make it, and we'll see what we can do.

Enter your EBPCO membership discount code during checkout on the workshop you wish to register for. Membership discount codes are located in the EBPCO membership handbook, sent to all active members via email. If you can't locate your handbook, email membership@ebpco.org

We are not able to offer an official waitlist, but in some cases you can request to be added to a cancellation notification list. If a sold out workshop receives a cancellation, we will reopen registration, notify everyone on the list at the same time, and registration for the open spot will be first come, first served. We are not able to hold spots, track any order, or prioritize anyone on the list, but we can let those who are interested know if something opens up! Cancellation notification lists have a limit of 5 people and close two weeks before the workshop. Please also note, we are absolutely not able to hold spots for upcoming workshops. EX: getting on the cancellation notification list for a sold out workshop will not prioritize you for any other future offerings of that workshop - registration will always be first come, first served. If you’d like to request to be put on the cancellation notification list for a sold out workshop, email us at workshops@ebpco.org.

We have workshop gift certificates for exactly this purpose! You can purchase a gift certificate on the workshops page (scroll to the bottom for the purchase link or go to it directly here) We'll email the digital gift certificate to you after you purchase, which you can either forward to the recipient, or you can request a printable copy if you prefer to gift them something physical. The recipient can then redeem the value using the certificate code during registration for the workshop they choose. We recommend this method of gifting workshops in lieu of directly registering others for classes without their knowledge! We prefer that the participant do their own registration, so that they can determine the workshop that works best for their interests, goals, experience level, and schedule.

NO! Taking a workshop is not a requirement to apply for darkroom use, though you will need some previous darkroom experience to get started. If you’ve had any experience working in a darkroom before, you can and should apply! Those with past experience may consider taking the “B&W Darkroom Refresher” workshop for some additional support, but it is not a requirement to get started in our space. If you’re completely new to darkroom processing or printing, then we’ll recommend the “Darkroom Photography Basics” workshop before you get started. The “Darkroom Photography Basics” workshops are fast-paced and immersive with multiple scheduled meetings. If you have conflicts with any of the scheduled meeting dates, we recommend that you register for a later offering of this workshop when you will be available to attend all scheduled meetings. We offer “Darkroom Photography Basics” once month and alternate the format between 4-week workshops and 2-day weekend intensives in order to accommodate different schedules. If you are already enrolled in a multi-week or multi-day workshop and something comes up, get in touch with us as soon as possible at workshops@ebpco.org.

If you've had previous experience in the darkroom, we recommend the “B&W Darkroom Refresher” workshop. This workshop covers all of the same topics as the “Darkroom Photography Basics” course, but is specially designed for those who’ve been in a darkroom before. Even if it’s been a long time and you don’t remember much from your past experience, sign up for the refresher, NOT the basics workshop, if you’ve processed and printed in the past! The “B&W Darkroom Refresher” workshop is offered once per term, so you'll have plenty of chances. Please also note: the refresher workshop is a great way to get back into processing and printing, but not required to apply for use of the EBPCO darkroom. If you are interested in taking the refresher workshop to use the EBPCO darkroom, you don’t need to wait to apply!

“Darkroom Photography Basics” workshops are limited to those who are familiar with shooting black & white 35mm film, and participants must bring an exposed but unprocessed roll of film to work with on the first day. If you want to learn how to shoot film and/or want to shoot the required roll in a workshop setting, sign up for our “35mm Manual Camera Basics” workshop first, which is offered once per term. If you want advice in finding a camera or want to check if one you already have is working properly, you can also attend our FREE “Dr Philm Camera Repair” workshops, which are also offered once per term. Once you have the basics of shooting down and a roll of black & white 35mm film under your belt, you’ll be all set to enroll in the “Darkroom Photography Basics” workshop, which is offered once per

For the foundational darkroom workshops, you will need to work with 35mm film initially and have one roll of B&W 35mm shot before class to participate. The equipment and supplies we have set aside to work with for these workshops work best with 35mm and it is an easier way to learn (or relearn) the basics - once you complete the class, transferring those skills over to medium or large format will come easily, and we do have enlargers and supplies for working with medium and large format in our darkroom. NOTE: other workshops may call for specifically for the use of these formats - always follow the recommended guidelines for each workshop. If you’d like to take a class that focuses on these other formats specifically, be on the look out for future workshop offerings.

Our darkroom is a black & white darkroom only. While it is technically possible to process color film in black & white chemistry, the results are unpredictable, and in even in best case scenarios, often don’t come out great. While this can be a fun way to experiment with film, we do not recommend it while you’re trying to learn the basics. If you’re thinking about enrolling in the “Darkroom Photography Basics,” “Darkroom Refresher,” or any of our other foundational darkroom workshops, please use BLACK & WHITE film only. NOTE: other workshops may call for specifically for the use of color film - always follow the recommended guidelines for each workshop.
