Aya Daterra (She/They)
EBPCO DARKROOM & WORKSHOPS INTERN - Summer 2026
Aya Daterra was born and raised in the East Bay Area. She is a sophomore at Bryn Mawr College majoring in Fine Arts. For the past four years, she has worked extensively with analog photography. She currently works as a Teaching Assistant for the Photography Department at Haverford College. She has curated her own award-winning photography projects and advises her photography students on curating their work. Her long-term goal is to build a career as both an artist and photography educator in the Bay Area.
Aya believes deeply in the power of art to heal and connect people. Photography, in particular, creates opportunities for people to feel seen, understood, and remembered. She holds a deep respect for photography as both an artistic and historical medium – one that shapes how we remember, interpret, and understand the world. She is especially curious about how images influence perception and memory, and how photography can both document reality and transform it.
Discovering photography gave her much-needed purpose and changed the trajectory of her life. She wants to deepen her understanding of the medium and pass that knowledge on to others, hopefully offering them the same sense of meaning it has given her. She hopes to spend her life teaching and learning about photography, growing and collaborating with her community through art.
