Sophie Stoerkel (b. 1992, Baltimore MD) utilizes analog photographic processes to bear witness to the ever changing city of Oakland, California. Her work examines our relationship to the built environment and asks us to consider where and how we place value. Sophie’s practice centers on active engagement with the local Bay Area arts community, she volunteers with the First Exposures youth photography mentoring program and is active in local photography critique groups. She received her BFA in Environmental Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art and is currently pursuing an MFA in Photography at the Hartford Art School.
