2025 EBPCO Members’ Exhibition
Theme: Diptychs
Images by John Park
When you hit a C chord on a guitar, the interplay of the component notes—C, E, G—release additional overtones that cannot be struck directly. Only the interplay of the fundamental notes make these tones possible.
Similarly, in photography, two images placed side by side can create an unexpected resonance and deeper meaning that surpasses that of each individual image. It is the visual equivalent of 1+1=3.
For this exhibition, we are seeking pairs of images that somehow create a distinctive emotional event for the viewer.
Diptych by guest juror John Park
They need not be (and likely should not be) obviously related (an image of the sun with one of the moon, for instance). Rather, leave room for the viewer to fill in meaning, their reaction becoming an overtone itself. The relationship might be graphic, emotionally elliptical, or border on the abstract. Suggest rather than explain.
This open call is limited to diptychs only. Please do not submit triptychs or pieces with more than 2 images.
Diptychs do not need to be framed together, but they must be submitted as one image. See Kat Dimitriuk’s example for a diptych that was framed seperately.
