This month’s Photographer’s Happy Hour is a field trip over the bay for the debut screening of Adobe’s documentary about EBPCO founding member Erik Mathy’s bike trip/photo adventure across the Southwest. Erik says:
Last November I rode a bicycle from San Francisco to Tucson along an 1800's wagon route with an old film camera and hand made lens (I make my own camera lenses) as a combined photojournalism project and fundraiser for Kids In Need of Defense. With social media wreaking havoc on our political discourse I wanted to talk to people in person about what's going on in the world today, to see if real conversations are still possible. I interviewed an immigration lawyer, US Border Patrol agents, artists, members of indigenous tribes and others to see what they had to say.
What also happened was that Adobe sent along a film crew to make a short documentary on the trip. The short documentary has turned into a 1 hour feature film. It will be shown for the very first time on October 9th, 5:30 pm at 111 Minna Gallery!
I couldn't have done this project without the encouragement and support of so many! It would be an honor to have people come experience what the project was all about.
This will also be another fundraiser for Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) because, well, obviously things on that front are still incredibly messed up.
